At the Empower Me Summit on November 26th, Mayor Marita Garret of Wilkinsburg will be honored for her outstanding work in the community. Mayor Garret will receive the Empower Me Summit Trajectory Award, an award that serves honor those who are dedicated to the community and are making great strides to help the community grow and thrive.
Mayor Marita Garret is the 10th Mayor of Wilkinsburg and is focused on delivering results for her community and creating a healthy and thriving place for residents. Mayor Garret has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career, including the Alzheimer’s Association-Greater PA Chapter’s Community “Outreach Volunteer of the Year” and was also named “Rising African American Leader” by the African American Alumni Council at the University of Pittsburgh.
She has also been honored with a “40 Under 40 Award” by Pittsburgh Magazine and New Pittsburgh Courier and most recently was awarded “Young Democrat of the Year” by the Allegheny County Democratic Committee.
Mayor Garret is part of various organizations including Congress of Neighboring Communities (CONNECT), Young Elected Officials Network, Emerge Pennsylvania, Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD Citizens Advisory Board, National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC), the American Psychological Association and the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues.
She earned her Master of Arts in Psychology from Chatham University and earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.
